| SSE - ALEXANDRA DRAG RACING MAIN TOP | SITE LINKS |
| SUNDAY,
26 SEPTEMBER 2004 It was Blossum (i can't spell) Festival weekend in Alex, and a few of us Dunedin peeps decided that we'd go up to the drag racing on the Sunday (mainly because Rob was racing his GT-R there). Anwho, we met up at BK Andy Bay at about 7am - to find that it was shut (Ben and Reece were travelling in Petes GTS-t with him while i was in Mum's Mazda MS-6). So then we headed off to Subway in George Street where they all got something to eat (i still have never had anything from Subway - too expensive). We finally took off at about 8am (half an hour late) and stopped in Waihola so Pete could get some petrol from Challenge. We got to the windy/sharp corners on this side of Lawrence and Pete put his foot down - i tried to keep up but with about 60 hp less than him, and having a front wheel drive car, it was a near impossible task. The wheels were screeching around some of the sharper corners (actually it was because the front tyres are REALLY cheap and have no grip) and i even understeered on a few of them. It was worse on the way back through those corners, as i got stuck behind a (slow driving) Hyundai Accent and didn't catch up with the guys until Waihola again. Anywho. We got to Alexandra about an hour later than we wanted to. Got to the drag racing at the airport and walked over to see the below GT-R of Robs'. Can't remember what time
the racing got started, but it was after we walked around
and looked at all the cars that were going to be racing. We met another GT-R (and it's owner) and he had only just finished paying the car off after buying it from Christchurch (an SDU members old car) earlier in the year. He was having a few problems with it, but eventually set a mid 13 second time i think. There was also a Lotus Elise there (the very first one i've seen in real life, and i could not believe how small it was!!) which set mid 15 second times if my memory serves me right. But needless to say, Rob and his GT-R won just about every class and apart from the motorbikes, he set the fastest times of the day. Quickest time was a new personal best of about 11.55 seconds - with nitrous assistance. |
